5 Motivations to Keep Your SEO Momentum

SEO is not a sprint. It’s not even a marathon…

With search engine optimization, there’s no such thing as a finish line. It’s a forever pursuit!

Okay, maybe not forever… but for at least as long as your small, medium or large business is around.

No one wants to die prematurely, especially since there are things we can do to improve our chances for a healthier, longer life…

Your small, medium or large business is no different. SEO can play a key role in promoting a longer, healthier business – a HUGE role!

Quick question… what is the #1 thing your business needs to survive? You guessed it… sales!

According to GoDaddy, search engine optimization is the #1 source of sales for U.S. small businesses (by the way, 99.7% of all U.S. businesses are “small”).

SEO #1 for Sales

So if SEO isn’t yet your #1 source of sales, then now is the time to get started (or do even more to take it to the next level).

Below are five motivations to keep at your SEO efforts for the long-haul:

1. SEO Is #1 for Sales Generation

I already covered this one above. Enough said, except for a quick – and important – caveat…

Once SEO is humming nicely, then it’s time to turn your attention to CRO. There are countless ways to help your website “convert” more visitors (website traffic) into leads or sales.

You can drive website traffic from SEO all day long. But if visitors don’t connect with your website, then they won’t convert while on it. In short, you should test different variables on your site. This will help hedge against anything that could be stunting your online sales growth.

2. Ever-Changing Organic Search Engine Ranking Rules

It’s commonly known that Google manually changes its search engine algorithms (a.k.a., ranking rules) 500-600 times per year. Did you catch that? That stat is about manual updates only. Yep, there are also countless automated updates happening all the time. That’s a lot!

So even if your website is as optimized as possible today, it won’t stay that way in the not too distant future.

3. Ever-Changing Competitive Landscape

Reason number three to do SEO ongoing…

In the SEO world, the definition of “competitor” is more broad than one might think. Businesses that sell what you sell are competitors, we all know that. (By the way, the percentage of new business start-ups is the highest it’s been in four years!).

Beyond traditional competitors, your website is also up against news websites, blogs, online directories, social media pages… just to name a few.

4. It Keeps Growing

The number of web pages indexed by Google has grown significantly in recent years. In 2013, there were 30 trillion web pages on Google. As of late last year, that number had grown to 130 trillion. That’s 4.3x more pages in less than four years!

5. The Sooner You Start SEO, The Better

We all know the Benjamin Franklin quote, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.”

So if you’re looking for more “Benjamins” from your website, then listen to Mr. Franklin. The longer you wait, the more you’ll fall behind. But there’s another saying…

“It’s never too late to start.” How true!

It’s easy to get discouraged. Don’t. SEO takes time and every company clamoring for higher rankings is in the same boat.

Today is the best day to start (or continue) building your SEO momentum…

Go get your rankings!

Hi Leonora – Sorry to hear that. Ups and downs are normal with SEO. That said, there are a number of factors that could cause results to be sporadic (i.e., having a relatively new site, need for a revised SEO strategy, seasonality, etc.). Like any SEO effort, first doing some analysis specific to your site (and then going from there) is recommended. Let me know if you’d like to meet sometime to discuss some options for you.
